The NCNU Rowing Team has won 2 gold, 4 silver, and 2 bronze medals at the 40th Hong Kong Rowing Championships!
The championships are hosted annually by the Hong Kong, China Rowing Association (HKCRA) and took place this year on Oct. 27 and 28 at the Sha Tin Rowing Centre and Jockey Club Shek Mun Rowing Centre.
A total of 25 teams from Australia, China, Japan, the Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, and the United States took part in this year’s races. The competition categories of Open, Masters, Para-Rowing, Disciplinary Forces Cup, Corporate Cup Events, and Local Universities Challenge are raced over two days using a progression system of heats through to the finals.
In the 10 events offered in Hong Kong — Men’s Double Sculls, Men’s Single Sculls, Men’s Four, Men’s Eight, Men’s Quadruple Sculls, Women’s Double Sculls, Women’s Single Sculls, Women’s Four, Women’s Eight, and Women’s Quadruple Sculls — the NCNU’s kayaking teams captured 2 gold, 4 silver, and 2 bronze titles.
NCNU has been cultivating its athletic program for sports such as rowing and archery in recent years. The NCNU Rowing Team was first formed in 2005 and has since been winning medals at the top collegiate level after training in the waters of Taiwan’s famed Sun-Moon Lake.
